Roller grilles in Willesden: the essentials

Aluminium grilles are lighter and suit large unit fronts; steel grilles add strength. An open curtain lets air and light through, so displays stay on view and the unit does not look closed down.

Shopping centres often require roller grilles rather than solid shutters on unit fronts. Brick-bond, tubular and link patterns give different levels of visibility and strength.

What's included

  • Suited to shopping centre unit fronts
  • Aluminium or steel curtains
  • Anodised or powder-coated finishes

Rules in England

Planning permission for shopfront shutters

In England an external shutter on a shopfront is usually treated as development that needs planning permission from the local planning authority, and a listed building also needs listed building consent. Many councils' shopfront design guides favour internal shutters, perforated or open-grille designs and boxes hidden behind the fascia, and some refuse solid external shutters in conservation areas and on main shopping streets.

How it works

  1. Send the details

Give us the postcode, approximate width and height, and what the shutter is protecting.

  2. We survey the opening

An engineer measures and checks the fixings, power and any planning constraints.

  3. You approve a fixed price

The quote lists the specification and price in writing, so there are no surprises.

  4. We fit and commission

Your shutter is installed, tested and handed over with instructions and paperwork.

Roller grilles: common questions

Do you cover Willesden?

Yes. Send the postcode and we will arrange a survey in Willesden. We also cover nearby Cricklewood, Notting Hill and Shepherds Bush.

Can a grille cover a very wide unit?

Yes, with a stronger curtain or removable intermediate posts to keep it rigid.

Can things be passed through a grille?

Small items can pass through an open lattice. Polycarbonate infill panels close the gaps if that is a concern.

Do roller grilles need planning permission?

External roller grilles usually need planning permission like other external security. Councils often find them more acceptable than solid shutters.

Do your guide prices include VAT?

Guide prices are shown both excluding VAT and including VAT at the standard rate of 20%. For a home, the price including VAT is what you pay.

Are your prices fixed?

Yes. After the survey you get a written price for the agreed specification, confirmed before anything is ordered or any work starts. If you change the specification, or a hidden problem such as a weak lintel is found during fitting, we price it and agree it with you before carrying on.
