How much do security shutters cost in the UK?

2026 guide prices for window, shopfront, garage and industrial shutters, repairs and servicing, with what drives the cost.

Fitted prices for security shutters in the UK range from a few hundred pounds for a small manual window shutter to well over £10,000 for a large insulated warehouse door. The guide figures below are ex VAT and assume a straightforward opening with power nearby where the shutter is electric.

What is the typical price range?

  • Manual window shutter, up to about 1.5m: £450 to £900
  • Electric window shutter, up to about 1.5m: £700 to £1,400
  • Patio door shutter, 2m to 3m: £900 to £1,800
  • Shopfront shutter, around 3m: £1,200 to £2,500
  • Shopfront shutter, 5m and wider: £2,200 to £4,500
  • Electric single garage roller door: £900 to £2,000
  • Insulated industrial door, electric: £2,500 to £6,000
  • Large warehouse or loading bay door, 6m and over: £6,000 to £12,000

What makes one shutter cost more than another?

Width drives the price more than height, because a wider curtain needs a stronger barrel, bigger motor and deeper guides. After that, the main factors are how the shutter operates, what the laths are made of and how it is finished.

  • Manual or electric operation: on window and smaller shopfront shutters, electric typically adds £250 to £500; larger industrial drives cost more
  • Lath type: insulated or foam-filled laths add roughly £150 to £500; perforated or brick-bond add £100 to £400
  • Powder coating to a RAL colour: around £60 to £250 on window shutters, more on large shopfront and industrial doors
  • Box position: concealing the box behind a fascia or inside can add £150 to £600
  • Security rating: LPS 1175 rated products cost considerably more
  • Access, out-of-hours work and any new electrical circuit

What does a repair or service cost?

Many shutter problems are fixed for far less than a new shutter. Published 2026 repair guides put a service and adjustment at around £90 to £180, refitting a curtain into its guides at £120 to £280, spring or barrel work at £200 to £450 and a replacement tube motor at £350 to £700, all ex VAT.

Why do prices differ across the country?

Labour and travel costs vary by region. Published guides show London prices for an electric window shutter roughly 25 to 30 percent above the Midlands, with the North of England, Wales and Scotland slightly below. Access, parking and pavement licences in city centres add to the cost.

How do I get an accurate price?

Send the postcode, approximate width and height, the type of premises and a photo. We can give a guide price from that, then survey to measure exactly and confirm a fixed price in writing before anything is ordered.

Questions about this topic

Are shutter prices quoted with VAT?

Our guide prices are ex VAT. VAT is added at the standard rate on the final invoice, and the prices page shows both.

Is the cheapest shutter good enough?

For a low-risk opening, a simple manual or foam-filled shutter may be fine. Higher-risk premises, wide openings and heavy daily use justify stronger laths, better motors and sometimes a rated product.
